CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball pulled off a gritty extra-inning win on Friday night on the road at NHTI.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves came out hot in the first inning, plating three runs on RBI from Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Maryland), Brady Wintle (Gorham, Maine), and Alex Bartlett (Thomaston, Maine). NHTI answered quickly with four runs in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on two SMCC errors to take the lead.
From there, both pitching staffs settled in. SMCC tied the game in the seventh when Aaron Whitman (Bennington, Vermont) delivered a clutch RBI single to center. After both teams traded zeroes, the Seawolves struck again in the top of the ninth with Whitman's second RBI of the night, scoring Dante Tocci (Portland, Maine).
Tied 5-5 heading into extras, Wintle came through with a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th. The bullpen shut the door in the bottom half, securing the win.
