OLD ORCHARD BEACH, MAINE – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team pushed the YSCC Championship game to the limit on Saturday, falling 7-6 in 13 innings to Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a marathon finale at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves came out strong, building a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning thanks to clutch hitting from Tyler Herkalo(Parkton, Maryland), who drove in two with a single in the third and added another RBI in the fourth.

CMCC responded with five runs between the fifth and eighth innings to pull ahead 5-4. Alex Bean (Westbrook, Maine) tied the game in the ninth with a key RBI single, sending it to extras.

After trading runs in the 11th, the game remained tied until the bottom of the 13th, when a passed ball allowed the winning run to score for CMCC.

Zach Oliver (Gloucester, Massachusetts) led the Seawolves' offense, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and earning YSCC Offensive Player of the Tournament honors for his consistent performance throughout the week.

Garrett McLeod (Winterport, Maine) turned in a strong start on the mound, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts over seven innings.
