  • Matt Richards Awarded Garth Pleasant Co-Athletic Director of the Year

    NORFOLK, Va.— In a unique season, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) pulled a different stance with the Garth Pleasant Athletic Director of the Year award. The USCAA announce today that Matt Richards of Southern Maine Community College and Andy Kirschner of Penn State Beaver will be named Co-Athletic Directors of the Year.

    SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—At the conclusion of the semester, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Director of Athletics Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Spring 2021 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. The report shows student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility—a higher threshold than those standards of the College.

  • USCAA Decision on Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball National Championships

    NORFOLK, VA - The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Board of Directors voted unanimously this week to cancel USCAA National Championships in the sports of Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, and Volleyball. This decision was made after weighing several factors including a continued rise in cases of COVID-19 across the country which have led to increased state lockdowns and quarantine restrictions, coupled with CDC restrictions which make the possibility of normal regular season play almost impossible.

    SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics enshrined three individuals and one team as its Hall of Fame class of 2020 by video announcement on Friday, Nov. 6. After careful consideration of all nominees, the Hall of Fame Selection Committee named Nick Anagnostis, Ali Waterman, Jose Nouthanthavong and the 2007-08 Men’s Basketball Team to join an elite group of 36 individuals and one team for their accomplishments on the playing surface and in the SMCC Athletics community.
