OAKLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) golf team scored a second-place finish in its 2022 debut at Waterville Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

SMCC turned in a team total 338, 33 strokes behind Thomas College. The University of Maine at Presque Isle placed third firing a 380.

First-year Alex Leupold (South Portland, Maine) led the way for the Seawolves posting an 80— fourth-best among individual scoring. Sophomores Zach Tremblay (Milledgeville, Ga.) and Albert Doughy (New Gloucester, Maine) were right behind tallying scores of 81 and 82; and first-year Remy Levin (Steep Falls, Maine) contributed to the team total with a 98.

The three medalists of the day came from Thomas College—these were two scores of 73 and a 76.

Head Coach AJ Burton reflected, "Yesterday being our first official match of the season was a successful one. Very appreciative for both UMPI and Thomas College for hosting us and allowing us to compete among NCAA Div. 3 talent. It was a great way for our freshman to get an understanding of what it's like to play a collegiate golf match. For our returners, Zach and Al, they have been true leaders in helping guide this team. I'm looking forward to this weekend's trip and seeing how we stand up with our YSCC counterparts."

The Seawolves hit the road to play at Montague Golf Club (Randolph, Vt.) on Friday before teeing off at Loudon Country Club (Loudon, N.H.) on Saturday.
