Charwat Lifts Seawolves to OT Victory

South Portland - The men's soccer team won their season finale in exciting fashion yesterday afternoon, grabbing a win over the College of St. Joseph's (VT) in overtime when Harrison Charwat (McLean, VA) scored off a pass from teammate Steve Rwendeye (Kigali, Rawanda).

Yesterday's YSCC soccer matchup was a battle of the best in the conference, St. Joe's currently sits on top of the YSCC West division while SMCC holds the number one seed in the East. The game was filled with scoring opportunities as the Saints amassed 24 shot attempts and the Seawolves had 12 but neither team was able to find the back of the net during regulation. Seawolves' keeper Drew Martin (Berwick, ME) had 13 saves, his second highest number of saves in a single game this season.

Once overtime started the Seawolves were quick on the attack, just 2:06 into OT Rwendeye broke away from the Saints' defense and slid a perfect ball in front of Charwat who was running down the middle of the field. Charwat chipped the ball over the Saints' keeper to secure the 1-0 win for SMCC.

This win improved the Seawolves' overall record to 7-5-1, good enough to award them a bye for the YSCC tournament. They will play in the semifinal game on October 24th at NHTI, time is to be determined.
