Men's Soccer rout UMA in conference action

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team scored a season-high 10 goals and kept a clean sheet in its win over the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) on Thursday, Sept. 15.

The one-sided affair began to take shape in the 11th minute. First-year Ahmed Al Mshakheel (Biddeford, Maine) scored the opening goal, and just a minute later, first-year Carsen Cyr (Madawaska, Maine) doubled the SMCC lead. Sophomore Giovani Lopez (Casco, Maine) and junior Nicholas Shaw (Newport, Maine) also scored in the first half, making it 3-0 and 4-0 respectively.

In the second half, Cyr scored two more to complete his hat-trick, Shaw added his second, and first-years Ibrahim Mwamba (Brunswick, Maine) and Ronan Anderson (Parsonsfield, Maine) got in on the action.

UMA managed five shots, landing three on goal.

SMCC goalkeeper, Ian Allen (Avon, Maine) totaled three saves; UMA's goalkeepers, Javi Fernandez and Hunter Frost, faced a total of 44 shots.

The Seawolves slide to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play.

Next, the men travel to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Sunday, Sept. 17. Kickoff in New York is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
