SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department has announced the resignation of former Head Men’s Soccer Coach Amory Houghton effective immediately.

Houghton was hired in January of 2023 and in his lone season at the helm of the program, the Seawolves achieved a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) finals appearance to go along with an 11-3-1 record.

Houghton’s 2023 squad named three to the YSCC All-Conference team and saw two United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American selections.

Coach Houghton commented, “It was a pleasure to service the program for the time I did, and unfortunately my relocation won’t allow me to continue. I created lasting relationships with players and staff, and will certainly be a supporter as a fan moving forward!”

Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards expressed, “Amory’s efforts created an impact within the department and a positive experience for our student-athletes. We thank Amory for continuing the successful traditions of the men’s soccer program and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors!”

An immediate search will be conducted by the department to fill the position.
