SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team became victorious over the Knights of Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in its season opener at Wainwright Sports Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The game was held at a standstill for the first 36 minutes of action until forward Louis Sehr (Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire) collected the ball off a loose throw-in, effortlessly dribbling through the defense to score the game's lone goal. The Seawolves strong defensive presence throughout the entire game kept the Knights scoreless to solidify the outcome in favor of the Seawolves.
Throughout the game, the Knights totaled 20 shots, five of them courtesy of Nikos Kakavitsas. The Seawolves had a total of 12 shots, eight of those being shots on goal.
Northern Essex's goalkeeper, Will Paganini, made seven saves, while SMCC's goalkeeper, Mohammed Turki (Portland, Maine) totaled 10 saves.
The Seawolves return to action on Thursday Sept. 5 on the road against NCAA Div. 3 Thomas College. Kickoff at Smith Field (Waterville, Maine) is scheduled for 7 p.m.
