Seawolves Struggle Against Saints

Rutland, VT - The Lady Seawolves softball team has suffered through an injury-laden preseason. Carrying only nine healthy bodies they headed to Vermont to battle the runners-up of the springs' YSCC tournament, the Fighting Saints of CSJ.

In the first game of today's double header CSJ pitcher, Maggie Miller, struck out eight of the 16 batters she faced and allowed only one hit by Seawolves' pitcher Erica Brochu (Lewiston, ME). The Seawolves' gave up 10 runs in the first inning and seven more in the next three innings as they fell to the Saints, 17-0.

The Seawolves fared slightly better in game two, losing 8-0 in five innings. However, CSJ's pitcher Jenna Crowley managed a no hitter, with the Seawolves getting on base just once when Grace Davis (Belfast, ME) was walked.

Limited to just one pitcher, Brochu, pitched both games for the Seawolves. She faced 62 batters and struckout two.

Defensively, first baseman Jennifer Genthner (Newcastle, ME) led the team in game one with four put outs, while centerfielder Samantha Rioux (Lewiston, ME) had five in game two.

The Seawolves will play again tomorrow at home against UNH at home at 12 and 2pm.
