Lady Seawolves Down Massasoit

Brockton, MA - The Lady Seawolves picked up two big road wins when the traveled south to face off against the Warriors of Massasoit Community College. In game one SMCC prevailed 18-6 and in game two the Lady Seawolves came out on top 14-4. 

In the first outing Massasoit took an early 2-0 lead after two innings of play. The Seawolves tied the game when center fielder Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) singled and was brought home by a sacrifice fly from Micheala Willwerth (South Portland, ME). First baseman Jennifer Genthner (Newcastle, ME) followed up with a triple and was batted in by Sarah Murphy (Scarborough, ME) to knot the game at 2-2. The Warriors fired back with two runs in the bottom of the third but SMCC tied the game back up at four runs apiece in the fifth. The Seawolves poured on the offense in the sixth, scoring five runs and pulling away for the final time as they cruised to the 18-6 victory. Nielsen and outfielder Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) led the team with four hits each while Willwerth, Genthner and Angela Neff (Barrington, RI) each pitched in a triple.

Game two started out with the Lady Seawolves chalking up a run in each of the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead. Nielsen sparked the offense with a single and then stole around the diamond to earn the first run. Massacoit slashed the lead to a lone run entering the fifth but then the Lady Seawolves rattled off nine runs in the four and fifth innings thanks in part to triples by Murphy and Veino. Ashley Bouchard (Fort Kent, ME) also pitched in an RBI triple to help the Seawolves take the 14-4 triumph. 

With this pair of wins the Seawolves improve to 4-10 overall.
