NECC Cruises Past Lady Seawolves

NECC Cruises Past Lady Seawolves

South Portland - In yesterday's softball outing between Northern Essex Community College and SMCC the Knights of NECC used strong opening innings in both of the games to pick up a pair of sizable wins. The Knights won game one 10-1 and game two 12-4.

In the first contest of the double header the Seawolves gave up six runs in the first inning, a lead the Knights would never relinquish. The Seawolves did catch a stroke of good luck when second baseman Maddie Wade (Brunswick, ME) got on base after a dropped third strike and then got knocked in by an Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) triple, but that was the only offense the Seawolves could muster as NECC rolled to a 10-1 win.

In game two the Seawolves once again struggled in the first inning and this time gave up four runs. They appeared to pull things together over the next four innings, only giving up four runs over the next four innings and scoring two runs in the fifth to cut the NECC lead to 8-2. Nielsen once again had the hot bat, drilling a two RBI double that scored pitcher Grace Davis (Belfast, ME) and catcher Rachel Cutler (North Yarmouth, ME). The Seawolves tacked on two more runs in the sixth when Maria Veino (Sanford, ME) and Davis crossed the plate to bring the score to 8-4. The bottom of the sixth was a repeat of the first inning as the Seawolves again gave up four innings and NECC walked away with the 12-4 victory. Davis had an impressive performance at the plate, going 3-3 with a triple while Cutler pitched in two hits for SMCC.

The Seawolves are now 4-12 on the season.
