Lady Seawolves Fall Short Against NHTI

South Portland - Yesterday afternoon the Seawolves hosted USCAA third ranked NHTI, who is currently sporting the best record in the USCAA at 19-1, in a solo softball game. Despite playing without All-American pitcher, Tori LeMay, the Lynx were still able to walk away with a win, 15-1.

The Seawolves started the game knocking off three consecutive Lynx' batters, one with a strikeout from SMCC pitcher Lindsay Marston (Rumford, ME). But the defensive momentum of the Seawolves quickly faded as they gave up six runs in the second inning, five of those runs earned from quality gap shots by NHTI.

Trailing 8-0 as they entered the bottom of the fifth inning SMCC avoided getting run-ruled when Micheala Willwerth (South Portland, ME) doubled, advanced to third on a Sarah Murphy (Scarborough, ME) single and crossed the plate on a Marston bunt. However, the sixth innning was all NHTI as they chalked up seven runs to come away with the 15-1 victory.

Willwerth's double, and teammate Jennifer Genthner's (Newcastle, ME) 2-2 performance at the plate led the Seawolves offense.

NHTI pitcher Hannah Seidner pitched all six innings for the Lynx, striking out six of the 23 batters she faced.

The two teams will be back on the field this afternoon for a 12 and 2pm double header.
