Lady Seawolves Drop Pair to NHTI

Lady Seawolves Drop Pair to NHTI

South Portland - The NHTI softball team tacked two more wins onto their USCAA-best record, now 21-1 overall, with two wins over the Lady Seawolves.

Seawolves pitcher Grace Davis (Belfast, ME) started game one with a strikeout but then NHTI strung together a series of four hits, two walks and two steals to pull ahead 5-0. SMCC buttoned up their defense and held the Lynx to two runs over the next two innings but a seven run fourth inning would prove too much for the Seawolves to come back from.

Micheala Willwerth (South Portland, ME) put SMCC on the board in the fourth when she doubled and got knocked in by Davis. The Seawolves scored again in the fifth when Abigail Nielsen (North Yarmouth, ME) singled and proceeded to steal both third and home. That would be the Seawolves only offense as they fell 13-2.

NHTI pitcher Tori Lemay ended the game with eight strikeouts.

In game two the Seawolves struggled to get outs in two of the six innings, giving up eight runs in the first and another five runs in the sixth, eventually dropping to the Lynx 15-3. SMCC did manage to put up two runs in the fourth on back to back RBI singles by Nielsen and outfielder Samantha Rioux (Lewiston, ME) and then another run in the fifth on an RBI double from Willwerth.

After this weekend the Seawolves drop to 4-22 overall.
