BIDDEFORD, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball lost its first game of the spring season, 14-4, against the club team from the University of New England (UNE) on Sunday, Mar. 26.

The Seawolves posted a consistent effort on the score sheet through five innings, nearly a run per inning. However, UNE's offense clamored for seven runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth to create distance.

First-Year Chloe Truman (South Paris, Maine) tallied the only multi-hit game for the Seawolves and scored a run. First-year Hailie Casey (Hudson Falls, New York) and Jessica Riley (North Haverhill, N.H.) each recorded a hit and a run.

UNE's K. Pedersen logged a homer and three RBI while teammate S. Antonucci knocked in two runners in her only at-bat.

Both pitchers went the distance. SMCC's Erica Hill (Lisbon, Maine) took the loss after seven strikeouts, taxed with just three earned runs. UNE's A.King was credited the win posting five strikeouts and five walks.

Head Coach Chris Caswell commented, "In our first time outside this spring, we showed flashes of great things! More reps against live pitching and more time spent on the diamond will certainly leave us in a better positon moving forward. Excited to get a full week of practice in before a big challenge this weekend!"

The result moves the Seawolves to 1-9 overall, in a combined record dating back to the fall.

Softball plays next in a double-header away at the Community College of Road Island (NJCAA) on Saturday, April 1. First-pitch in Warwick is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
