SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team fell to the Knights of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 8.

Game 1 (4 innings): L, 17-2 | [BOX]

The Knights kicked it off with a 5-run first inning and followed it with a 10-run second inning, quickly distancing themselves from the Seawolves who were able to manage two runs on six hits. The game was decided early based on run differential.

First-years Hailie Casey (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) and Chloe Truman (South Paris, Maine) each recorded multi-hit games and scored a run. CCRI's Ashley Klingberg led her team with three hits, three RBI, and four runs.

Seawolves' starter Erica Hill (Lisbon, Maine) tallied four strikeouts and contributed a RBI from the plate. The Knights' Victoria Butler earned the win.

Game 2: L, 11-2 (5 innings) | [BOX]

The Seawolves saw themselves behind 2-1 after two complete innings, but the Knights took charge in the third scoring nine times. The Knights wouldn't score again, and the home team added another in the fourth—but again the game was considered complete after five innings.

Casey added two more hits to her afternoon and saw 2.2 innings of relief work inside the circle. Both first-years Ronnie Anderson (Toole, Utah) and Emma Cousins (Wells, Maine) finished with RBIs.

Klingberg again had a standout performance for the road team with three hits, two runs, and three RBI.

SMCC's Hill took the loss; CCRI's Samantha Marsella recorded a complete-game win.

The Seawolves now stand 1-13 on the season.

The Seawolves do it again with the Knights on Friday, April 14, this time in Rhode Island. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
