SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team came up short in both games of its Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader with the USCAA #2-ranked Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Friday, Apr. 21.

Prior to the game Head Coach Chris Caswell and the SMCC Athletics Department celebrated the program's three graduating student-athletes playing their final regular season home game for the Seawolves— Natalie Potter (West Danville, Vt.), Emma Cousins (Wells, Maine) and Ronnie Andersen (Tooele, Utah).

Game 1 (5 innings): L, 9-1 | [BOX]

The Mustangs took quick control getting ahead 6-0 after three innings, and tacked on three more in the fifth to finish the game by the 8-run rule.

Andersen batted in teammate Tallie Pilsbury (Caratunk, Maine) for the Seawolves' lone one run. First-year Jaylyn Bartolome (Sanford, Maine) managed a stolen base.

CMCC's Olivia Gallan recorded one hit, one run and three RBI.

First-year starter Hailie Casey (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) contributed a complete-game performance, but was taxed the loss. Her counterpart Olivia Scott also went the distance, finishing with 12 strikeouts and was credited the win.

Game 2: L, 16-2 | [BOX]

The Seawolves lead by one run after the first inning and were able to keep the Mustangs in striking distance, until the road team ripped off eight runs in the seventh.

Andersen finished the game with a hit and a run, scoring on a RBI by teammate Erica Hill (Lisbon, Maine). Casey hit an impressive homer to right field in the fourth to score the Seawolves' second run.

Again, Gallan was effective at the plate collecting three hits, two runs, and five RBI.

Casey took the circle again for SMCC and notched a season-high five strikeouts. The Mustangs' Riley McNamara earned the victory.

The results push SMCC to 1-17 overall.

Softball will finish out its regular season at CMCC on Sunday, April 30. Game start times are set for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
