DUBOIS, Penn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team defeated the #9 Celtics from Carlow University 1-0 in the play-game at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Small College World Series on Monday, May 13.

The Seawolves scored the lone run of the game in the bottom half of the first when first-year Veronica Mercier (Bangor, Maine) led off with a single. Mercier stole second base and with two outs first-year Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.) roped a RBI single to right-center to deliver all the offense SMCC would need.

SMCC starter and co-captain Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) tossed a complete game shutout spreading out four hits and walking just one. The right-hander struck out two to help the Seawolves to an opening round win in the program's first ever appearance at the tournament.

The Seawolves move on to play the #1 seed Penn State University Brandywine today (May 13) at 4:00 p.m. WATCH | LIVE STATS
