DUBOIS, Penn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team suffered a 5-4 loss to #1 Penn State University Brandywine 5-4 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Small College World Series on Monday, May 13.

After taking down #9 Carlow University earlier in the day, SMCC's Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) went back to work to throw another complete game against the Nittany Lions. Wilkins managed to limit damage on 15 hits, walking none and striking out four.

Brandywine pushed a run across on a wild pitch in the first before first-year Maddie Webb (Trenton, Ohio) evened the score with a RBI single in the second. First-year Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) cracked a two-run homer to left-center in the next inning to give SMCC a 3-1 lead.

The Nittany Lions added two in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth to change the advantage again before first-year Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.) delivered a RBI in the fifth to knot it 5-5.

Brandywine would eventually score on a walk-off single in the eighth inning to win a thrilling ballgame.

Hutchins, Perry, and first-year Abigail Ontengco (Brownfield, Maine) all recorded multi-hit games.

SMCC will play again on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. The Seawolves await the winner of Carlow and Bay Path University to be played on May 14 at 10:00 a.m.
