AUGUSTA, Maine— In a dominant display of softball, the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Seawolves swept the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) Moose in a doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 22, winning both games decisively.
Game 1: W, 9-0 (5 innings)
SMCC's offense was explosive, with multiple players contributing to the score line. Key hits came from Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.) who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a homerun. First-year Cameron Crerar (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) also went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. The Seawolves' pitching was equally impressive, as their ace Sarah Wilkins (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) went the distance for a shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out 3 batters. SMCC's defense proved solid throughout, making crucial plays to keep the Moose off the board.
Game 2: W, 12-1 (5 innings)
The second game saw SMCC continue their offensive onslaught. The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead, showcasing their power at the plate with several extra-base hits by Aubrey McElhaney (Sabattus, Maine) and Courtney Frohaug (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada). Their lineup proved relentless, with contributions from the entire roster, to include Crerar and Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, ME). Although UMA managed to score one run, SMCC's pitchers, Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) and Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) maintained control of the game, limiting any further damage.
SMCC closed out the day with a commanding performance and look to continue rolling against Central Maine Community College in doubleheader action on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
