SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— In a dominant performance, the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team swept the Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs in a softball doubleheader on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Game 1: W, 9-0
The Seawolves took control early in the first game, with a strong offensive showing that saw them put up multiple runs in the third inning. Sophomore captain Sarah Wilkins (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) put together a highlight reel in the first game with a two-run homerun in addition to her complete game, six strikeout, shut out. Every batter for the Seawolves reached base and seven of them recorded runs. Sophomore Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) connected for three hits and three RBIs for the home team.
SMCC's defense was flawless, allowing no errors and shutting down any chance of a CMCC rally. The game ended after five innings, with SMCC cruising to a 9-0 victory.
Game 2: W, 6-0
In the second game, the Seawolves continued their dominance, as their pitcher Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) threw a second shutout. The SMCC bats stayed hot, with 13 hits, scoring runs in the first few innings, continuing to stifle CMCC's offense. Scotvold helped herself with two hits at the plate to go with two runs.
Jayden Tripp (Prospect, Maine), Delanie Perry (DeLand, Fl.), and Hill all recorded multi-hit games as well. The Mustangs had a few chances to score but were unable to capitalize due to SMCC's strong defense and timely pitching. SMCC sealed the 6-0 win to complete the sweep.
The Seawolves showcased their depth both offensively and defensively, continuing their impressive undefeated fall season.
The softball team looks to close out an undefeated September as they travel to the Community College of Rhode Island for an exhibition doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 28.
