Seawolves Drop Pair in Myrtle Beach Spring Classic

SMCC vs DANVILLE AREA COLLEGE:

MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) fell to Danville Area Community College, 6-2, in non-conference softball action on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, as Cameron Crerar (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) led off with a bunt single and later came around to score on a groundout by Delanie Perry (DeLand, Florida.). Moments later, Courtney Frohaug (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) crossed the plate on an Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) RBI single to put SMCC ahead 2-0.

Danville responded in the fourth inning with an explosive six-run frame, capitalizing on a combination of timely hitting and an SMCC defensive miscue. Mia Herbert started the rally with an RBI single, followed by RBI knocks from Pailei Cripe and Molly Besser. The Jaguars extended their lead as Gloria Richardson delivered a two-run single, and Chloe Hunt capped the scoring with an RBI groundout.

Despite multiple base runners in the later innings, the Seawolves were unable to push across any more runs, ultimately falling 6-2.

PITCHERS OF RECORD:

Sarah Wilkins (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) (3-1 on the season) made her 2025 debut in the circle for the Seawolves, going the distance with a complete-game effort. Wilkins allowed six runs—four earned—on 11 hits while walking none and striking out two across seven innings of work. She faced 33 batters without issuing a free pass.

For Danville, Kennedy Highley held SMCC to two runs on 10 hits, striking out four and walking one in a complete-game effort.

LEADING HITTERS:

  • Hutchins led the Seawolves' offense, going 4-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Perry added a 2-for-4 performance, driving in another SMCC run.
  • Frohaug (1-for-3) scored a run after reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
  • Crerar (1-for-3) also crossed the plate in the first inning.
  • For Danville, Gloria Richardson (1-for-4) drove in two runs, while Kennedy Highley, Alyssa Acton, Kaylee Kline, and Mia Herbert each contributed multi-hit games in the win.

SMCC vs HARFORD:

MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA –SMCC fell to Harford Softball, 9-0, in non-conference softball action on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves were held scoreless as Harford took control early, plating three runs in both the second and third innings before adding three more in the fourth. SMCC was limited to two hits in the contest, one coming off the bat of Delanie Perry (DeLand, Florida) and the other from Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine), who also swiped a stolen base.

Harford's offense was led by Kaylee Pruett, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including a run-scoring double in the fourth inning. Brianna Lunenfeld helped her own cause, driving in two runs while also throwing a five-inning shutout in the circle.

PITCHERS OF RECORD:

Ella Voth (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) made her first collegiate start for the Seawolves, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in two innings of work.

Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) came on in relief, throwing two innings and surrendering four runs on five hits while walking one.

For Harford, Lunenfeld picked up the win, tossing a five-inning complete-game shutout while allowing two hits.

LEADING HITTERS:

  • Perry went 1-for-2.
  • Hill finished 1-for-1 with a stolen base.
  • For Harford, Kaylee Pruett (3-for-3, 2B, 2 RBIs), Lunenfeld (1-for-1, 2 RBIs), and Kobert (1-for-2, RBI) led the way.
