SMCC Splits Games Against Schoolcraft and Lackawanna

SMCC vs. SCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE

MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball racked up 20 hits in an 11-3 victory over Schoolcraft College in non-conference action on Friday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead, plating three runs in the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Delanie Perry (DeLand, Florida) and Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada). SMCC added two more in the second when Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) and Perry each delivered run-scoring hits.

Schoolcraft responded with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but SMCC's bats stayed hot. A two-run double by Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) in the sixth extended the lead, and the Seawolves capped off their offensive showcase with two more in the seventh.

Cameron Crerar (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) had a standout performance, going a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored, while Perry led the team with four RBIs on three hits.

PITCHERS OF RECORD:

  • Sarah Wilkins earned the complete-game win, scattering six hits and allowing three runs while striking out four over seven strong innings.
  • Kaitlyn Solberg took the loss for Schoolcraft, allowing three runs in just 0.1 innings.

SMCC vs. LACKAWANNA COLLEGE

MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball came up short against Lackawanna College, dropping a 9-4 decision in non-conference softball action on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Lackawanna set the tone with a seven-run first inning. The Seawolves responded in the second inning as Ariana Cross (South Portland, Maine) doubled and came around to score on a Taylor Swift (Lisbon, Maine) RBI single.

SMCC continued to chip away at the deficit, adding another run in the third when Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) singled, stole second, and later scored on a groundout by Delanie Perry (DeLand, Florida).

Hill struck again in the fifth, delivering an RBI single to plate Taylor Swift, who had reached on a single and advanced into scoring position. The Seawolves added one more in the seventh as Hill recorded her third hit of the day, driving in Swift again.

Despite SMCC's persistence at the plate, Lackawanna's early offensive outburst ultimately decided the game.

PITCHERS OF RECORD:

  • Ella Voth took the loss in her start for SMCC.
  • Sloan Scotvold (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) provided stability in relief, working 4.1 innings.
  • Cassie Dunham (Chelsea, Maine) closed the game with a scoreless inning.

For Lackawanna, Jianna Booth went the distance, allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out one.
