DuBois, Pa. – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball continued its postseason magic on Tuesday afternoon, knocking off top-seeded Salem University 7-2 in the USCAA Small College World Series quarterfinals at Heindl Field.
With the win, the Seawolves (30-6) remain undefeated in the tournament and extend their win streak to 22 games in a row while advancing in the winner's bracket to the semifinal round.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After two quiet innings, SMCC broke through in the third with the game's first run. They added insurance with a run in the fourth before erupting for five in the fifth, taking advantage of Salem's defensive miscues and timely hits.
Sarah Wilkins (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) was once again in command in the circle, striking out 11 while allowing just two runs on six hits across a complete-game effort. It marks her nineth double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
SMCC capitalized on six walks, two hit-by-pitches, and three Salem errors to pad their lead, despite collecting just five hits.
