Seawolves Blank FNU to Punch Ticket to National Final

DUBOIS, PENNSYLVANIA – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball advanced to the USCAA Small College World Series Championship game with a 1-0 win over Florida National University on Wednesday afternoon at Heindl Field, remaining unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Seawolves wasted no time, striking in the top of the first. Delanie Perry (DeLand, Florida) roped a two-out double and came around to score on an RBI single by Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine), providing the only run SMCC would need.

Sarah Wilkins (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) delivered yet another dominant performance in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just seven hits, issued no walks, and struck out three.

SMCC threatened again in the sixth with extra-base hits from Cameron Crerar (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada), but FNU's defense held to keep it a one-run game. Ultimately, Wilkins and a flawless SMCC defense shut the door to secure the victory.

With the win, the Seawolves improve to 31-6 and advance to the USCAA National Championship game on Wednesday, May 15 at 12:00 PM at Heindl Field. Florida National drops into the loser's bracket and will need to win once more to earn a rematch.
