SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team hosted NJCAA Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) on Wednesday Sept. 18.
In the first set, the Seawolves would win 25-14 to take a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. BHCC rallied two straight sets, 25-22 and 25-23, to take the lead—the first time the Seawolves would trail all season. SMCC would have their best offensive performance of the night in the fourth when they landed 10 kills on 19 attempts, to bounce back and tie the score 2-2. The fifth set would feature an exciting victory for the Seawolves as they would beat the Bulldogs 16-14, to solidify their sixth win of the season.
Freshman Lillian Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Meryk Lewellen (Gorham, Maine) combined for 28 out of the 56 kills for the home team. The two would also combine for 12 service aces. Freshman Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) racked up 25 assists and five service aces.
With the win, the Seawolves improve to 6-0 on the season.
SMCC returns to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action on the road against the Lynx of NHTI on Saturday Sept. 21. First serve in Concord, New Hampshire is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
