  • SMCC Sends Five To NCAA Division III Programs

    SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Five student-athletes of the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) class of 2016-17 have found new homes in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III athletics. Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine), Vanese Barnes (Jay, Maine), Hannah Heald (Union, Maine), Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.), and John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) will continue their playing careers and pursue bachelor degrees at the next level beginning this fall.

The SeaWolves received an automatic bid and the fifth seed after winning the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournament. SMCC will match up with #4 Penn State University Greater Allegheny on Thursday, Mar. 2 in the quarter-final round inside the Maltho Gymnasium on the campus of Penn State University Fayette. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

In 14 minutes of action against University of Maine-Augusta, the sophomore recorded 31 points on 14-19 from the floor and pulled down eight rebounds in the process. Against USCAA division I member, Dean College, Silvestri put up a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards.
